Lhyfe agrees wind power supply for 5-MW French hydrogen site.

French green hydrogen developer Lhyfe has signed a corporate power purchase agreement with compatriot renewables company VSB Energies Nouvelles related to the latter’s 13.2-MW Buleon wind farm in the Morbihan region of Brittany.

Under the 16-year agreement, the wind farm’s entire generation will be offtaken by the Lhyfe Bretagne green hydrogen production site, also located in Buleon. The 5-MW hydrogen facility is under construction and is expected to become operational late this year. It will produce up to 2 tonnes of hydrogen a day for local mobility and industrial uses.

The partnership marks the first corporate PPA for VSB Energies Nouvelles. The company’s Buleon wind farm, featuring six Vestas turbines of 2.2 MW each, has been in operation since 2021.

“Supplying a hydrogen production facility helps to create green energy while providing an answer to the intermittency of wind turbines and the need for storage. We are really entering a new stage of energy transition here,” commented Mael Lagarde, VSB Energies Nouvelles managing director and owner. (September 7, 2023)
